Rain in today’s forecast

Sleet or freezing rain is possible this morning along with rain, according to the National Weather Service. Slick roads are possible, especially on untreated surfaces, bridges and overpasses.

Ice remains in place on many side streets and sidewalks. Motorists were advised to take caution if heading out on the roads this morning.

In Wyandotte County, the temperature was 34 degrees at 9 a.m. with light rain and mist or fog in the area, the weather service said.

With the temperature so close to freezing, there might be isolated areas where the temperature varies slightly, resulting in slick roads, but temperatures are expected to rise throughout the day, reaching 35 degrees by 2 p.m. and 37 at 5 p.m.

The forecast for today called for a chance of rain before 10 a.m., then sleet possible, possibly mixed with snow between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., then rain after 11 a.m., the weather service said. Patchy fog is in the forecast.

Today’s high will be near 37 with an east wind of 7 to 9 mph. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half-inch is possible.

Tonight, there will be an 80 percent chance of rain before 1 a.m., then a chance of freezing drizzle between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., followed by a slight chance of snow after 5 a.m., according to the weather service. Patchy fog is possible before midnight. The low will be 27 with a northeast wind of 6 to 15 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds may gust as high as 22 mph.

Tuesday, the high will be near 39 with a west northwest wind of 11 to 16 mph, gusting as high as 24 mph, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 22 and a west northwest wind of 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 51 and a south southeast wind of 5 to 11 mph, gusting as high as 21 mph, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 37, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 54, the weather service said.

Thursday night, there is a 50 percent chance of scattered snow showers after midnight, with a low of 19, according to the weather service.

Friday, there is a 30 percent chance of snow before noon, with a high near 26, the weather service said.

Friday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 12, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 29, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 16, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 30, the weather service said.
