Program planned on Emmett Till case
A program is planned from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kansas, on the 1955 Emmett Till murder case. Dave Tell, an associate professor of communications studies at the University of Kansas, will describe various memorials and how they show different narratives of what happened. Tell co-created the Emmett Till Memory Project.
Free tax preparation offered
Beginning in February, AARP will provide free tax preparation services from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays at the Bonner Springs City Library, 201 N. Nettleton Ave., Bonner Springs, Kansas. Storm spotter training canceled, to be rescheduled
A severe weather seminar scheduled for Feb. 5 was canceled because of a forecast of freezing rain and potentially hazardous road conditions. This seminar will be rescheduled later. For those who are interested in the weather, a storm spotter training seminar will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Kansas City Kansas Community College, Dr. Burke Technical Education Center, 6565 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The Wyandotte County Emergency Management Department is the host of the seminar, which will help residents be prepared to deal with severe weather. The seminar is free and open to the public. Staff from the National Weather Service office in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, will lead the seminar. Those attending will learn to recognize, identify and relay information about severe weather. They also will learn the difference between severe and non-severe weather. They will learn how to and what to report to the National Weather Service.
