Wyandotte County will be under a wind chill advisory from 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, through noon Wednesday, Jan. 30.
According to the National Weather Service, dangerously cold wind chills are expected tonight as arctic air overspreads the region.
The temperature tonight may reach minus 3 in Wyandotte County, with a wind chill reading of minus 8 to minus 18, according to the weather service. That wind chill reading will continue Wednesday morning.
Single-digit high temperatures on Wednesday combined with steady north winds will lead to the continuation of dangerously cold wind chills on Wednesday and Wednesday night, the weather service said. Wind chill values will begin to warm early Thursday morning as warmer air arrives from the south.
The weather service said the cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken, according to the weather service. Those going outdoors should wear a hat and gloves.
Today, there is a chance of flurries, and the high will reach near 24 degrees, the weather service said. A west wind of 7 to 15 mph will become north in the afternoon, and winds may gust as high as 24 mph.
Tonight, the low will be around minus 3, with wind chill values between minus 8 and minus 18, according to the weather service. A north wind will be around 10 mph, gusting as high as 18 mph.
Wednesday, the high will be near 7, with increasing clouds and cold, the weather service said. The wind chill will be between minus 8 and minus 18. A north wind of 10 mph will gust as high as 18 mph.
Wednesday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 5, according to the weather service. The wind chill will be between minus 1 and minus 6. An east wind will be 6 to 8 mph.
Thursday, the high will be near 32 with mostly cloudy skies and an east southeast wind of 6 to 8 mph, the weather service said.
