Dangerously cold weather in today’s forecast

Dangerous wind chill readings, around 3 degrees at 8 a.m. and 6 degrees at 9 a.m., were in Wyandotte County this morning. The temperature was 19 degrees at 9 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service, frostbite was possible on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes this morning in some areas of the region.

Temperatures are expected to warm up today, and reach a high of 34 this afternoon, the weather service said.

A quick-moving storm system will cause a trace to 1 inch of snowfall over north central Missouri this afternoon into evening, but this storm is not showing up at this time in the Wyandotte County forecast, according to the weather service.

Light snow is again possible Saturday morning in the northern portion of the region, but is not showing up in the Wyandotte County forecast, the weather service said. The weekend storms will affect the St. Joseph, Missouri, area, but they are not currently listed in the Wyandotte County forecast.

On Monday, another weather system will push through, creating a 50 percent chance of ice and snow between 7 a.m. and noon in Wyandotte County, according to the weather service.

Extreme cold will move back to the area Wednesday and Thursday, with an overnight low of 5 and dangerous wind chill values here, the weather service said.

Today, it will be partly sunny with a high near 34, the weather service said. Wind chill will be between zero and 10. A south wind of 8 to 17 mph will become west in the afternoon, and winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Tonight, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 17, according to the weather service. A west northwest wind of 5 to 7 mph will become calm in the evening.

Saturday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 36, and an east southeast wind of 5 to 9 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 28 and a southwest wind of 6 mph, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 40 and a west northwest wind of 5 to 7 mph becoming south southwest in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Sunday night, there is a 30 percent chance of showers after midnight, with a low of 32, according to the weather service.

Monday, there is a 50 percent chance of rain showers before 7 a.m., then a chance of snow showers between 7 a.m. and noon, the weather service said. The high will be near 34, and it will be breezy.

Monday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 12, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 24, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 5, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 17, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low around 5, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 21, the weather service said.
