Citizens’ Police Academy to begin March 4

Applications are being accepted for the Spring Citizens’ Police Academy offered by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department Training Academy.

The Citizens’ Police Academy begins Monday, March 4, and runs through Wednesday, April 22. Classes are usually held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the KCKPD Training Academy, 7340 State Ave., on the KCKCC campus.

Members of the community who are accepted into the program may attend lectures and receive training. Their teachers include professional police instructors in crime scene investigations unit, tactical unit, bomb squad and gun range.

The goal of the academy is for residents to leave with a better understanding of police operations and the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Training topics, dates and locations of the classes may change, and a few Saturday mornings could be included.

Those interested in attending the Citizens’ Police Academy must be at least 18 years old. The academy is free to residents, business owners and others who are concerned about Kansas City, Kansas, and Wyandotte County. Participating individuals must pass a criminal history background check.
