Currently, BPU customers pay $4.50 a month for the storm water fee. The Unified Government is discussing increasing the fee, with different rates for different categories.
For example, a residential customer under the proposal would pay $5.90 a month on a property with impervious area of 1,209 to 3,626 square feet, and $10.62 a month on a property of 3,627 to 6,044 square feet.
In another example, a retail store with 39,800 square feet and an impervious area of 20,300 square feet would pay $49.50 a month.
In another example of undeveloped land without hard surfaces, a 95,000-square-foot lot would pay about $21 a month.
