Police release identity of deceased man shot in altercation with officers

Kansas City, Kansas, police have released the identity of a deceased man involved in an altercation with officers on Sunday night.

Richard L. Johnson, 46, of Kansas City, Kansas, died after the altercation with police.

A police spokesman stated officers responded to an indecent exposure call about 11:11 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, to the 400 block of North 18th Street.

A struggle ensued at the suspect’s apartment, according to the police spokesman. The suspect took an officer’s weapon and fired a shot before being shot by a second officer, according to the spokesman.

The suspect died at the scene, while officers were taken to a hospital for treatment, according to the spokesman. The officer who was shot had non-life-threatening injuries.
