A stolen black Cadillac that fled police around 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, was involved in an accident that resulted in a death a few minutes later, according to the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department.
A woman in her late 70s driving a Camry died as a result of injuries from the accident, while the man driving the Cadillac fled on foot, according to a police news release.
It started with officers seeing a stolen black Cadillac Eldorado about 4:06 p.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of Central Avenue. The vehicle did not yield for the officer and fled the area, police said. The officer did not pursue the vehicle, according to the news release.
A short while later, officers were notified of an injury accident in the 3800 block of Haskell Avenue involving the stolen Cadillac Eldorado and a Toyota Camry.
In the accident a woman in her late 70s was ejected from a Toyota Camry and taken to the hospital in critical condition. The man driving the Cadillac fled on foot from the scene, police said.
At 11 p.m., the hospital notified police that the woman had died from her injuries.
A person of interest in the incident has been taken into custody, police said.
The accident remains under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s traffic support unit-critical collision response team.
