Democrat Sharice Davids won the 3rd District, U.S. representative, contest tonight with 54 percent of the vote to Rep. Kevin Yoder’s 44 percent.

Yoder, a Republican, has served four terms in the 3rd District.

Key issues for Davids were access to health care and education. She campaigned against the Yoder campaign’s acceptance of funds from special interests.

In her victory speech, Davids said she would represent everyone in the 3rd District.

“I will work every day to make sure that we all feel represented,” Davids said. “We need leaders who listen to Kansans, who vote Kansas values, who will stand up for access to health care and quality public education. And leaders who will stand for our interests, not the special interests. I will be that leader. Thank you for being here with me tonight. I know we can do better. I hear you. I see you. And I can’t wait to get to work representing you.”
