T-Bones starter Casey Barnes pitched a complete game against Gary SouthShore in 6-1 win in front of 7,639 fans Saturday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
After failing to get a win in his last five starts, Barnes pitched remarkably in his first win since July 15. He allowed just one run off three hits, and struck out six. From the final out in the first into the fifth, Barnes retired 11 straight batters. Barnes (3-4) allowed just five base runners all evening.
Kansas City jumped on RailCats starter Morgan Coombs (6-9) early. In the bottom of the first T.J. Mittelstaedt got things going with a lead-off single, and scored on an RBI double by Danny Richar.
The T-Bones took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Mittelstaedt followed up a lead-off single by Robby Kuzdale with an RBI double of his own, and was brought home by a sacrifice fly by Matt Padgett.
Padgett, starting the sixth off with a walk, scored when Ray Sadler launched a home run over the left-field wall that gave Kansas City a 5-0 lead.
Bryan Sabatella extended his hitting streak to 10 consecutive games with a single to right in the sixth inning.
With the win the T-Bones improve to 38-46 while the RailCats fall to 44-41. They will conclude this three-game series Sunday afternoon at 5:05. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618.
