Several topics are on the agendas tonight for Unified Government committees at City Hall, fifth floor meeting room, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas.
The Public Works and Safety Committee will meet at 5 p.m. Oct. 22, followed by the Administration and Human Services Committee.
On the agenda for the Public Works and Safety Committee:
• Three proposed ordinances concerning motorized stand-up scooters and shared small vehicle programs.
• A Fire Department application to FEMA for a prevention and safety grant of $112,024.
• A Police Department application for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant of $104,142.
• A Police Department application for a Department of Justice grant for Strategies for Policing Innovation, for a grant of $700,000.
• An ordinance granting a fiber optic cable franchise to MCImetro Access Transmission Services Corp., doing business as Verizon Access Transmission Services.
• A report on the Wyandotte County Solid Waste Plan and an update on Waste Management operations.
• A revision to an ordinance on speed limits in residential areas and in city parks. The proposed revision states that 25 mph will be the maximum speed limit in residential areas and 20 mph will be the maximum speed in city parks.
• A presentation on the Urban Trail System and a resolution to authorize a survey of land necessary to be acquired for the multi-phase Urban Trails-Bike Lanes project.
• A resolution to authorize a survey of land necessary to be acquired for the Safe Routes to School Project at William Allen White Elementary, West Middle School along Welborn Lane from Georgia Avenue to North 45th Street, and Frances Willard Elementary School along Orville Avenue from North 28th to 36th Street.
• Presentation of the 2018 fireworks report by the fire marshal.
• An update on the new fire station construction project.
• An overview of the major capital improvement projects by the Public Works Department during 2019, and a review of projects that are carrying over from 2018.
On the agenda for the Administration and Human Services Committee, which is scheduled to start after the completion of the Public Works and Safety Committee tonight:
• An ordinance to expand the jurisdiction of the Wyandotte County Health Department to inspect public pools within all areas of the Unified Government.
• A resolution to support the Wyandotte County Health Department’s Community Health Improvement Plan.
• An ordinance that amends the hours a club or drinking establishment can prohibit the serving, mixing or consumption of alcoholic liquor on licensed premises. The current hours are from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. The proposed hours are 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Another proposed change is to prohibit people on the premises. The current hours are 2 a.m. to 9 a.m., and the proposed hours are 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.
• Amending the noise disturbance ordinance, adding provisions on noise disturbance and repealing a swimming noise provision.
