Mega Millions jackpot grows to $1.6 billion

There was no jackpot winner in the $1 billion Mega Millions drawing on Friday night, and the jackpot now has grown to $1.6 billion, with a cash option of $904 million.

The jackpot now is the largest in U.S. history, surpassing an earlier Powerball jackpot.

The next Mega Millions drawing is Tuesday night, Oct. 23.

The Powerball jackpot also is high, currently at $470 million for tonight’s drawing. The cash option is $268.6 million.

According to the Mega Millions website, the chances of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302.6 million. You have a better chance of being struck by lightning – the odds of being struck by lightning are one in 14,600 in a lifetime of 80 years, according to the National Weather Service. The odds of being struck by lightning in any given year are one in 1.17 million.
