KCKCC men seek fourth straight soccer win at Neosho Tuesday

Kansas City Kansas Community College’s soccer teams will try to gain some revenge Tuesday in a Jayhawk Conference re-match against Neosho County in Chanute.

Neosho ruined KCKCC men’s opener, winning 1-0 when the Blue Devils inadvertently kicked in the game’s only goal while the Lady Blue Devils lost 2-1 on a goal in the final nine minutes. Opening kick for the women is 5:30 p.m. with the men to follow.

The defending Jayhawk Conference and Region VI champion, the Blue Devil men continued their climb back up the conference ladder with a 4-1 win at Coffeyville in their last contest. It was the third straight win for the Blue Devils (3-2), who can move past Neosho (3-2-1) into second place with a fourth straight win. Unbeaten Cowley College (9-0) tops the standings at 6-0.

Coffeyville took a 1-0 lead at Coffeyville, Oluwaseun Koya scoring just 21 minutes into the game before KCKCC beat the clock with two late first half goals.

Kenar Huntington tied the game on an assist from Stylianos Papadmitri with six minutes left in the half and Hiago Gaspar put KCKCC ahead to stay on a pass from Huntington with just two minutes remaining.

Reed Axthelm put the game out of reach in the second half, scoring twice on assists from Huntington and Alejandroo Maillet. Fabian Keilblinger protected the lead in goal, posting four saves on the Ravens’ eight shots on goal. KCKCC had eight shots on goal.

Meanwhile, the Lady Blue Devils are coming off back-to-back 3-0 losses at Coffeyville and at home Saturday night to Butler, the Jayhawk leader at 6-0 and 9-3 overall.

The two losses dropped KCKCC to 2-3-2 overall. Elise Leidersten had a goal and two assists to lead Butler. Her goal came just 11:31 into the game and she set up Zion DeWerff for a 2-0 lead at the 17:50 mark. Alee Alter had five saves in goal for KCKCC, which was limited to three shots on goal.

Coffeyville jumped in front 1-0 in the first five minute on a goal by Gabriella Rodriquez and later added goals by Christine Kitaru and Ashley Talley.
