Summer lingers as hot weather continues

In the next three days, daytime highs will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s, with heat index values pushing into the lower to middle 90s, according to the National Weather Service.

Wednesday may be the hottest, with a heat index approaching 100 degrees, the weather service said.

The next chance for rain is late this week, as a cold front will spark off a round of potentially strong thunderstorms late Thursday into Friday morning, according to the weather service.

Temperatures are expected to fall from 90 on Thursday to 75 on Friday; they will drop into the 70s Friday to Sunday behind the front.

Today, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 90 and a heat index as high as 96, the weather service said. A south southwest wind will be 3 to 8 mph.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear with a low of 74 and a south southeast wind of 7 mph, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be sunny with a high near 92, the weather service said, and a heat index as high as 96. A south wind will be from 6 to 14 mph, gusting to 22 mph.

Wednesday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 74 and a south wind of 10 mph, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be sunny with a high of 90, the weather service said. A south southwest wind of 9 to 14 mph will increase to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon, gusting as high as 33 mph.

Thursday night, the cool front and rains are expected to arrive. There is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m., then showers are likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., with thunderstorms and showers likely after 4 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 67. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Friday, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 a.m., then a chance of showers between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 75.

Friday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 60, according to the weather service.

Saturday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers with a high near 73, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 61, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 76, the weather service said.

Sunday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 63, according to the weather service.

Monday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 78, the weather service said.
