Live at Legends free concert to be Aug. 2
The Legends Outlets, I-70 and I-435, will sponsor free family friendly concerts on some Saturday evenings during July and August in front of the center courtyard fountain. Big Time Grain Company will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. The Live at the Legends summer concert series will feature local and regional talent performing popular pop, classic rock and country hits from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and today. The concert series will take place at the center of the Civic Courtyard Fountain in front of Phoenix Theaters Legends 14.
Summer concert to be Aug. 2 at Legends
Dave and Buster’s Summer Concert Series will continue at 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, on the rooftop patio at The Legends Outlets. Counter Culture will perform from 9 p.m. to close Aug. 2. Different bands will play on Saturdays through September.
Free summer movies offered
The Legends 14 Theatres will present “Rio,” rated G, and “The Smurfs 2,” rated PG, at 10 a.m. Aug. 5, 6 and 7. Admission is free. All ages and groups are welcome. Doors open at 9 a.m. Seating is limited to availability. Currently showing feature films are not included in the free admission, and the schedule is subject to change.
Night trail run to be Aug. 1
The 2014 Psych Night Trail Run will take place at 8:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Wyandotte County Lake, 91st and Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kan. This trail running event will include a 5K fun run-walk, and a 10K fun run-walk along a hilly, wooded route. There is an entry fee. Bonner Springs to hold Operation School Supplies
Operation School Supplies will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 2, at Bonner Springs High School for students in the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville School District. The event is intended to help low-income families with providing school supplies for their children in kindergarten through 12th grade. To qualify, students must be in the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville district, currently enrolled or a returning student in the district. Sponsors of the event include the school district, Vaughn-Trent Community Services, Fellowship West, Bonner Springs City Library, Walmart, Lagasse Sweet, and churches, businesses and individuals.
Night Out Against Crime to be Aug. 5
Night Out Against Crime will be held at 5 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Kansas National Guard Armory, 18th and Ridge, Kansas City, Kan. The guest speakers include Topeka Police Chief Ron Miller, former Kansas City, Kan., police chief; and Thomas Beall of the U.S. Attorney’s office in Kansas. Local elected officials also are expected to speak. Children and adults may attend. A yo-yo demonstration and competition is planned. Community groups also are attending the event. The first 100 who belong to a registered neighborhood group will receive a free T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded. Those attending will also have the opportunity to meet with members of the local Police and Sheriff departments.
Ringling clown to visit Main KCK Library Aug. 6
Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey clown, Billy, will visit the Main Kansas City, Kan., Library’s Lego Club on Wednesday, Aug. 6, as part of the circus’ first “Clown Crawl.” Billy will visit multiple metro locations during Aug. 6 – 9 to celebrate Book Lovers Day, which is on Aug. 9, and will officially announce tickets on sale for Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey presents “Built To Amaze,” an eight-performance run at Sprint Center, Sept. 10 – 14. Also included on Billy’s tour is an appearance at Sprint Family Fun Days in downtown Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday, Aug. 9. The event at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, 625 Minnesota, will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 6. The theme will be the circus, and children will be encouraged to build Lego creations that have the circus as a theme. Billy also will provide entertainment such as juggling and magic tricks. Those children attending will receive clown noses, and discount tickets will be available for the circus. The library event is free and open to the public.
Keeler Film Series to be held Aug. 6

Marriage enrichment class starts Aug. 6
A marriage enrichment class will begin Wednesday, Aug. 6, at St. Patrick Catholic Church social hall, 94th and State Avenue. Classes will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Aug. 27. Balloon festival set for Aug. 8-10
The Great Midwest Balloon Festival will be Aug. 8 to 10 at the grounds of the Kansas Speedway, at I-70 and I-435, Kansas City, Kan. More than 50 hot-air balloons are expected to fly over the area. Back-to-School Fair to be Aug. 9
The annual Wyandotte County Back-to-School Fair will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at two locations, Kansas City Kansas Community College, 7250 State Ave., and Boys and Girls Club Wyandotte County, 1240 Troup Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Students who live in Wyandotte County may participate. Parents should bring proof of residence. Children are required to attend. Immunizations are available to those who bring their immunization cards. Sports physicals will be available; a pre-participation examination form is requested. Bookbags with school supplies will be given out. Books will be distributed to children. Haircuts will be available. Lunch will be served. African-American Art Festival planned Aug. 9

Mobile food pantry to distribute food Aug. 9
Civitan Clubs of KC are sponsoring a mobile food pantry at noon on Saturday, Aug. 9 and Aug. 16, at 8822 Parallel Parkway. This is in the parking lot of the Crossroads Family Church. Educational meeting on agricultural market information to be Aug. 10

Workshop offered to optimize health
A free workshop, Kansans Optimizing Health Program, will be held Sept. 3. The workshop is for adults with an ongoing health condition, and will provide practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue, and will provide information on nutrition and exercise, understand new treatment choices, find better ways to talk with the doctor and family about health. Those with conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain, and anxiety may be interested in this workshop. Dotte Trot to benefit SAFE fund
The Dotte Trot, a 5K and 10K run, will be run at 8 a.m. Sept. 27 at Wyandotte County Lake Park, 9100 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kan. All proceeds from the run benefit the Surviving Spouse and Family Endowment Fund. SAFE supports the families of law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency service personnel in the Kansas City metropolitan area who have died while protecting the community and citizens.
