A motorcycle rider is in critical condition after an injury-accident about Friday afternoon, April 20, on I-635 near Shawnee Drive.
According to a Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokesman, officers responded about 2:09 p.m. to an accident between a motorcycle and a white four-door vehicle.
According to the preliminary investigation, the motorcycle was eastbound on Shawnee Drive when it struck a white Nissan coming from an exit ramp off I-635 north. The Nissan was turning westbound onto Shawnee Drive.
The driver of the motorcycle was thrown and hit his head on the pavement, according to the spokesman. The motorcycle rider’s helmet came off from the impact of hitting the ground, the spokesman stated.
The motorcycle rider was taken to a hospital in critical condition, the spokesman said. The driver of the Nissan had no injuries and remained at the scene.
The accident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit-Critical Collision Response Team.
The Shawnee Drive exit to I-635 was closed during the traffic investigation.
