Severe thunderstorm warning issued for northwestern Wyandotte County

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued until 8:30 p.m. for northwestern Wyandotte County, according to the National Weather Service.

At 7:53 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 6 miles south of Easton, Kansas, to near Linwood, Kansas, moving northeast at 40 mph, the weather service said.

The storm is known for 60 mph wind gusts and half-dollar sized hail.

Leavenworth County and central Platte County also are under the thunderstorm warning.

According to the weather service, hail damage to vehicles is expected, along with wind damage possible to roof, siding and trees.

Edwardsville, Bonner Springs, Kansas City, Kansas, and Pomeroy are in the path of the storm.

Residents should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of their building.

Large hail, damaging winds and dangerous lightning is occurring with these storms.

Residents are advised to move indoors immediately.
