Severe thunderstorm warning issued

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for southern Wyandotte County, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning is in effect through 6 p.m. Friday, April 13.

At 5:17 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Rantoul, or 8 miles east of Ottawa, moving northeast at 50 mph, the weather service said.

Golf-ball sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts are associated with this storm.

Bonner Springs and Edwardsville are in the path of the storm.

People and animals outdoors may be injured, according to the weather service. Hail damage is possible to roofs, siding, windows and vehicles.

Persons should seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows, according to the weather service. Large hail and cloud-to-ground lightning is possible with this storm.

A tornado watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. Friday for all of Wyandotte County and surrounding areas.
