Trash pickup now delayed two days this week

This schedule has changed again. See update to this story at https://wyandotteonline.com/weather-delayed-trash-pickup-schedule-altered-again-after-ug-requests-change/.

After another icy day with unsafe road conditions, Waste Management of Kansas City has suspended is residential and commercial trash collection today in Wyandotte County.

According to an announcement today, this will push back collections another day, after they were already delayed one day earlier this week. Trash normally collected Wednesday is now scheduled for Friday collection. Trash usually collected Thursday will be picked up on Saturday. And trash usually collected on Friday will be postponed a full week until next Friday’s collections, according to the company’s announcement.

Schools also were canceled throughout the area because of the icy road conditions as the weather service warned of the conditions, the company pointed out.

“Side streets, parking lots and driveways are typically last to be treated which are the primary areas that we service” said Justin Vetsch, senior district manager for Waste Management. “Due to the freezing rain, winter weather advisory and dangerous road conditions we have suspended trash and recycle collections today,” Vetsch said. “The safety of our employees and the public is a primary concern and guides our decision on days such as today.”

Slick road conditions also affected Wednesday collection routes serviced by the Kansas City operation.

“Our service recovery plan for the remainder of the week is to complete Wednesday routes on Friday, and Thursday routes by end of day Saturday,” said Paul Howe, senior manager of community relations. “We are asking Friday residential customers to hold this week’s material until next Friday, at which time we will collect the excess household trash.”

Waste Management gave this schedule for customers serviced by the Kansas City collection operation:

• Service is suspended today, Feb. 22.
• Wednesday collections will be completed Friday, Feb. 23.
• Thursday collections will be completed Saturday, Feb. 24.
• Friday residential customers are asked to hold material until next Friday at which time excess household trash will be collected.

  1. Why is it right to pick up the trash twice at every other location BEFORE Friday trash pickup locations get one?
Friday trash pickup scheduled should be the NEXT pickup day ( Monday). If not, then we should have our bill reduced for missing that week of PAID services not rendered. It is bad enough that recycling is picked up sporadically at best. Now we have to store extra trash for an extra week because YOU DON’T CARE about FAIRNESS to all Waco residents. Sick of only ONE trash removal service for WYCO
