The 57th annual Greater Kansas City Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, March 1, at the Kansas City Downtown Convention Center Ballroom, 301 W. 13th St., Kansas City, Mo. The guest speaker at the breakfast will be Lamar Hunt Jr., owner of the Kansas City Mavericks hockey team. The breakfast is co-sponsored by more than 30 area mayors. This year the breakfast will benefit the nonprofit Sheffield Place of Kansas City, which helps homeless mothers and their children become more self-sufficient. A spiritual day of reflection is planned from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 17 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church basement, 708 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kansas. After Mass, there will be reflection, refreshments and a guest speaker on the topic, “Living Our Baptism.”

A sweetheart dance sponsored by the German-American Edelweiss Society is planned from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at St. Mary-St. Anthony Church, 615 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The $20 admission charge includes dinner and dancing to the Willie Kirst Band.

Members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1300 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan., will observe the last Sunday after Epiphany at 10 a.m. Feb. 11. Ash Wednesday services will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 14. Services for the first Sunday in Lent will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 18.

A Lenten prayer retreat for women will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 17 at St. Peter’s Cathedral, 409 N. 15th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Registration and a continental breakfast in the parish hall will be followed by a Mass at 11:30 a.m. A Lenten reflection will be presented. The cost of the retreat will be $15.
