The Schlagle Lady Stallions rolled past Washington on Tuesday night, 71-24, in front of a near capacity crowd at the Washington field house. Schlagle’s strong inside game, combined with very active defense, gave them a commanding advantage.

Schlagle took charge from the beginning, scoring the first 12 points and taking a 17-1 lead to the first quarter break.

Washington showed some life to start the second quarter, scoring consecutive baskets on short jumpers and causing Schlagle coach Mark Western to call a timeout to restore order. The Stallions responded by scoring the next seven points, and they held a 40-13 advantage by halftime.

Schlagle’s inside attack was led by freshman Tylieea Wallace with 18 points. Washington forced Wallace to the free throw line in the first quarter, but later in the game, she was able to finish her shots at the rim. Kenaja Green, Camille Evans, and Ishante Suttington each scored 12 for the Lady Stallions.

Washington guards Ashley Gibson and MieKey Todd tried to ignite the Wildcats offense with dribble penetration inside. With open floor space in transition, they were able to find some scoring opportunities, but more often they were hemmed off by Evans or blocked at the basket by Wallace or Green. Todd finished the game with 9 points, while Gibson scored 8.

Schlagle improves its record to 3-3 (2-1 in the Kansas City-Atchison League). They will play Friday on the road at Atchison High School. Washington drops to 0-6 (0-2 in the league). They will play at Wyandotte on Friday. Both games start at 5:30 p.m.
