High fire danger today, weather service says

Gusty northwest winds, combined with low relative humidity and dry surface fuels, will lead to another afternoon of high fire danger today, the National Weather Service said.

A fire weather special weather statement has been issued for Wyandotte County and a large portion of the region.

A change in the weather is coming on Thursday, when a rain and snow mix is possible, according to the weather service. Currently, little if any accumulation is expected.

A better chance for rain will occur Saturday night into Sunday, the weather service said. Snow could be mixed in, as well.

Very little snow accumulation is expected at this time, according to the weather service.

Today, the high will be near 57 with sunny skies, the weather service said. It will be breezy, with a west southwest wind of 9 to 14 mph becoming northwest 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds may gust as high as 31 mph.

Tonight, the low will be around 29 with partly cloudy skies and a north northwest wind of 7 to 16 mph, gusting as high as 24 mph, according to the weather service.

Thursday, the high will be near 40 with mostly cloudy skies and a north northwest wind of 5 to 8 mph, the weather service said.

Thursday night, there is a chance of sprinkles and flurries before 8 p.m., then a chance of flurries between 8 p.m. and midnight, according to the weather service. The low will be around 27. A calm wind will change to west northwest around 6 mph after midnight.

Friday, the high will be near 45 with sunny skies and a west northwest wind of 5 to 9 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Friday night, the low will be around 33 with mostly clear skies, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny with a high near 55, the weather service said.

Saturday night, there will be a 40 percent chance of rain showers before 3 a.m., then a chance of rain and snow showers between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., then a chance of snow showers after 5 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 34.

Sunday, the high will be near 46 with partly sunny skies, the weather service said.

Sunday night, the low will be around 29 with partly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Monday, the high will be near 52 with sunny skies, the weather service said.

Monday night, the low will be around 33 with mostly clear skies, according to the weather service.
