Dangerous fire risk today, weather service says

There is an extreme fire danger today, and a red flag warning is in effect from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. today in Wyandotte County, according to the National Weather Service.

A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures may contribute to extreme fire weather, the weather service said.

Outdoor burning should be avoided, as any fires that start may be capable of spreading rapidly, according to the weather service.

Today, northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph are expected to increase to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon, the weather service said. Winds may gust as high as 38 mph. The high will be near 55 with mostly sunny skies.

Tonight, it will be mostly cloudy, then gradually clearing, with a low of 26, according to the weather service. A north northwest wind will be from 7 to 17 mph, gusting as high as 31 mph.

Tuesday, there will be mostly sunny skies with a high of 41, and a northwest wind of 6 to 9 mph, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, the low will be around 30, with a south southwest wind of 3 to 5 mph, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, the high will be 56 with sunny skies and a south southwest wind of 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, the low will be around 32 with partly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Thursday, the high will be near 43 with partly sunny skies, the weather service said.

Thursday night, the low will be around 26 with partly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be sunny with a high near 48, the weather service said.

Friday night, the low will be around 35 with mostly clear skies, according to the weather service.

Saturday, the high will be near 56 with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said.

Saturday night, the low will be around 35 with partly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Sunday, the high will be near 52 with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said.
