Parenting support group offered
A parenting support group will be offered from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The group will help parents collaborate in finding ways to connect with their children and form strong bonds. The group will meet on Mondays. It is facilitated by Marqueia Watson. Downtown Holiday Lighting Festival to be Dec. 1
The mayor’s Downtown Holiday Lighting Festival will take place from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, in front of Kansas City, Kansas, City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The event includes the tree lighting ceremony, a visit with Santa Claus, crafts and games for kids, holiday movies and popcorn, performances by choirs, bands and dance groups, and goodie bags for the first 1,000 children. Santa Express to start Dec. 2 at Ag Hall
The Santa Express will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 2 and 3, and Dec. 9 and 10, at the National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame, Bonner Springs. Children may visit Santa I the depot, ride on the train, work on crafts, and have cookies and hot cocoa. Donations will benefit Farm Town restoration. Grinter Place to hold holiday events Dec. 2
Grinter Place is planning holiday events, Breakfast with Santa and Holiday with the Arts, on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the historic site at 78th and K-32 in Kansas City, Kansas. The Grinter barn, 1400 S. 78th St., will be the site of a Breakfast with Santa event from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Dec. 2. The breakfast will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Dec. 2, while lunch will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost for breakfast ranges from $3 to $7, while the cost of lunch will be $3. Children may have their pictures taken with Santa, receive a goodie bag and work on holiday crafts. They will receive their photos with Santa at the event. The Holiday with the Arts event will include visiting with artists and authors, and listening to music. There will be books, paintings and pictures available for purchase. There also will be a wine tasting from Rowe Ridge with cheese and crackers, she said. Tours of the Grinter House will be available. The event includes a portrayal of Moses Grinter by Bill Nicks, Grinter House curator, from 3 to 4 p.m. The Zane sisters will show and demonstrate beading during the event. Tickets for Holiday with the Arts are $6 per person or $10 for two persons. All funds raised through the event will go toward Grinter Place. Community meeting on future of northeast area to be Dec. 5
A community meeting on the future of the northeast area and developing a northeast area master plan will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Neff Packaging, 555 Sunshine Road, Kansas City, Kansas. Another community meeting on the northeast area master plan will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Grant Elementary School, 1510 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Initial findings, a vision for the northeast area, and early action projects to start the revitalization process will be discussed. Families with children may attend, and there will be food and beverages served.

The Turner Community Library, 831 S. 55th St., Kansas City, Kansas, is planning a Star Wars holiday event at 6 p.m. Dec. 7. The party’s Star Wars theme will coincide with the opening of a new Star Wars movie. Crafts, games and refreshments will be available, and those attending may dress as their favorite Star Wars character. There also will be an appearance by Santa Claus.

Friends of Yates’ annual benefit gala to be Dec. 9
Friends of Yates will celebrate 104 years of service by holding the “Holiday At The Apollo” annual meeting and Benefit Gala at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 9 at the Jack Reardon Convention Center, 520 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.
