Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback was at the Boys and Girls Club today in Kansas City, Kan.
One of the governor’s initiatives is to encourage children to read. A program used at the Boys and Girls Club is KidzLit, a program that encourages reading proficiency at the third grade level.
“We really need to encourage our children to read, this is why we have programs like this,” said the governor.
The governor was asked about the Brady Center’s lawsuit against Kansas’ law that exempts the state from federal regulations on Kansas-made guns. The governor said the state supports Second Amendment rights.
“We are going to stand up for people’s rights,” said the governor. “This is why we’re going to stand up against the federal government.”
The governor was asked if he will go on the Schlitterbahn Verruckt water slide. The answer is yes, he said. The reason he did not previously is because he had a scheduling conflict, he said. In fact, he encouraged the media to go on the water slide with him.
“I cannot wait to try it,” Gov. Brownback said.
