Leftover medications to be collected today

Today is National Drug Take-Back Day, according to Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt’s office.

Locations around the nation will be collecting unused leftover medications for safe disposal from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

The dropoff site list for Wyandotte County includes one location, the Bonner Springs Price Chopper, 501 Commercial Drive, Bonner Springs, sponsored by the Bonner Springs Police Department.

The intent of the event is to dispose of leftover medications to prevent accidental or intentional misuse, according to the news release from the attorney general’s office.

Since the program began in 2010, more than 58 tons of unwanted medications have been collected and destroyed in Kansas alone, the attorney general’s office stated. The disposal program kept the unused medications out of the hands of kids and away from pets, and also helped prevent damage to the environment, according to the attorney general’s office.
