Freezing temperatures predicted this weekend

Wyandotte County is under a freeze watch from 1 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, through 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, according to the National Weather Service.

The low could be around 30 degrees in Wyandotte County, the weather service said.

Unprotected, cold-sensitive plants may be damaged or killed by the sub-freezing temperatures, the weather service said.

Also, relative humidity values across the area will be in the 35 to 45 percent range, when combined with northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph range, will bring some fire weather concerns. Fuels are still somewhat green, so ignition might be difficult, but anything that does ignite could spread quickly, given the strong winds and dry atmospheric conditions, according to the weather service.

The forecast also contains a fairly long stretch of below normal temperatures through the weekend and into next week, the weather service said. The first freeze of the season may be Saturday and Sunday mornings.

There could be a slight warming trend for the beginning of next week, but temperatures will remain well below seasonal normal into early next week, the weather service said.

Today, look for a high of 68 with sunny skies, and a south southwest wind of 8 to 16 mph becoming north northwest in the afternoon, the weather service said. Winds may gust as high as 29 mph.

Tonight, temperatures drop dramatically. It will be mostly cloudy with a low of 34, according to the weather service. A north northwest wind of 15 to 20 mph will gust as high as 31 mph.

Friday will be a difference of more than 20 degrees than Thursday. The high will be near 45 with mostly sunny skies, and a northwest wind of 10 to 14 mph, gusting to 25 mph, the weather service said.

Friday night, widespread frost is in the forecast after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. It will be mostly cloudy with a low of 30 and a northwest wind of 7 to 9 mph.

Saturday, there will be widespread frost before 10 a.m., the weather service said. It will be sunny with a high near 48 and a northwest wind of 7 to 9 mph.

Saturday night, expect widespread frost after 10 p.m., according to the weather service. It will be mostly clear with a low around 29.

Sunday, there will be widespread frost before 10 a.m., the weather service said. There will be sunny skies with a high of 57.

Sunday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 41, according to the weather service.

Monday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 54, the weather service said.

Monday night, the low will be around 33 with partly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.
