A strong thunderstorm was located near Lawrence, Kan., about 4:08 p.m. Saturday, moving east at 30 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Nickel-sized hail and winds in excess of 40 mph are possible with this storm, according to the weather service.
Kansas City, Kansas, Bonner Springs and Edwardsville are in the path of the storm, along with other communities in Johnson County, Kansas, and in Missouri.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and could lead to local flooding, according to the weather service. Motorists are advised not to drive vehicles through flooded roadways.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm, the weather service said.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle, the weather service said.
