Kansas City allowed four runs in the sixth inning as the T-Bones fell 7-2 to Grand Prairie on Tuesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.
Kansas City starter Rick Zagone (6-2) tossed five scoreless innings before the AirHogs tallied four hits in the sixth that gave Grand Prairie the lead and they wouldn’t look back.
The T-Bones were out in front early after a timely Grand Prairie error in the second inning. Following a Nick Schwaner walk with two outs in the inning, Jeff Lusardi reached on a fielding error by AirHogs’ second baseman Alex Nunez. Brian Erie then shot a single to left field that scored Schwaner and gave Kansas City a 1-0 lead.
Schwaner added another run on his own, leading off the fourth with a line drive over the right-field wall that extended the Kansas City advantage to 2-0.
The AirHogs finally got to Zagone in the sixth. Vince DiFazio led off the inning with a double and later came around to score on a Madison Carter groundout. With two outs in the inning, Eric Baker walked and Jimmy Mojica singled before Alex Nunez laced an RBI single into left field that scored Baker and tied the game at 2-2. Jason Botts roped a two-run double down the right field line later in the inning, giving Grand Prairie a 4-2 lead.
Grand Prairie added another run in the eighth courtesy of two fielding errors by Kansas City third baseman Darrell Hudson. Baker reached on Hudson’s first error to lead off the frame and would later come around to score on another Hudson error, pushing the AirHogs’ lead to 5-2.
Grand Prairie tacked on two more in the ninth for a 7-2 win. Jason Jarvis (2-1) allowed two runs on eight hits over eight innings. Zagone took the loss.
