Residents meet about flooding on south side of KCK

Residents heard Tuesday that the flood gates were not open during a recent flood on the south side of Kansas City, Kansas.

The meeting between residents and Unified Government staff on flooding on the south side of Kansas City, Kansas, was held Tuesday night.

According to Commissioner Ann Brandau-Murguia, residents were told by Unified Government staff that a recent instance of flooding was a mistake, and the flood gates were not open during a recent flood.

Commissioner Murguia said the next step will be for the UG to look at how to remedy the situation, and how to take care of residents who had a lot of damage from flooding.

The meeting with residents was held on Tuesday night at the South Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library at 3104 Strong Ave.

Another meeting with residents and UG staff is scheduled at 8 p.m. Oct. 9 at the South Patrol police station at South 21st and Metropolitan, she said. They will talk about the damage that the residents had, she said. With flooding, often everyone’s damage is different, she added.

It is possible that some areas may have had different causes for flooding.
