Police are investigating a death in the 1300 block of Merriam Lane.
A spokesman said police went to the location about 8:40 p.m. Sept. 14 to locate a male in his 30s who was a robbery suspect.
Officers approached the business and the suspect left through the back door into a wooded area, the spokesman said.
Officers went toward the rear of the building, heard a gunshot and stopped, according to the spokesman.
Then officers set up a perimeter.
A police tactical team searched behind the building and the wooded area, where they found the suspect, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The identity of the person is being withheld pending positive identification and family notification.
The incident remains under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.
