T-Bones win second straight over Stockade

The Kansas City T-Bones took their second straight game over the Salina Stockade, 6-3, on Friday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas.

In similar fashion to Thursday night, center fielder Kyle Petty nailed a solo home run to put Kansas City up 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

Looking to follow last night’s pattern, the T-Bones scored three more runs in the third, extending their lead to 4-0 and taking control of the game early.

A sacrifice hit from second baseman Marcus Lemon brought in the first run of the inning followed by a two-run home run from first baseman Kevin Keyes. The American Association home run leader’s home run marked his 22nd on the season and extended his league lead to four home runs.

The Stockade attempted a comeback early in Friday night’s match. Catcher Cody Coffman scored a two-run home run to put them back within two. Salina let the T-Bones earn a run back in the bottom of the fourth, however, with an error by second baseman Fernando Garza.

Lemon was able to advance to first off the error, allowing left fielder Dexter Kjerstad to put the T-Bones on top by three. The Stockade’s determination never wavered as they added another run in the seventh inning.

A double to left field by shortstop Logan Trowbridge cut the lead to 5-3, but Kansas City continued to have an answer to everything Salina threw at them.

Catcher Zane Chavez’s sacrifice fly to right field that brought in Kjerstad in the bottom of the eighth sealed the victory for the T-Bones. Kansas City picked up win number two in the series, 6-3, over Salina.

Matt Sergey (4-3, 3.55), a right-handed pitcher, tossed the win for the T-Bones, while left-handed pitcher Jared Koenig (1-4, 6.50) suffered the loss. Cody Winiarski notched the save, tying for first place in the American Association with 16 saves on the season.

Right-handed pitcher Calvin Drummond (6-2, 4.87) will look to take the series over Salina Saturday night.

The T-Bones (45-31) will play game three of a four-game series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas. It will be First Responders Night with post-game fireworks.
