Tickets on sale for U.S. Open Cup Final Sept. 20 in KCK

Single-game tickets are now on sale via SeatGeek.com for the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final, U.S. Soccer’s National Championship, slated for Sept. 20 at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas.

Open Cup Final tickets are available to Sporting KC season ticket members as well as the public, with all season ticket members holding a right of first refusal for their seats until 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16. At that time, tickets that are not purchased by season ticket members will become available to the public.

Sporting Kansas City progressed to its third Open Cup final in six seasons with a riveting 5-4 penalty kick shootout win over the San Jose Earthquakes following a 1-1 draw on Wednesday.

Manager Peter Vermes’ men are seeking the club’s fourth Open Cup title, with previous victories coming in 2004, 2012 and 2015. Sporting KC is a perfect 3-0 in Open Cup finals, including a 2012 triumph over Seattle Sounders FC at Children’s Mercy Park, the only previous time the stadium has held the championship match of U.S. Soccer’s oldest national competition.

The 2017 final will see Sporting Kansas City play host to the winner of next Tuesday’s semifinal encounter between the New York Red Bulls and FC Cincinnati of the United Soccer League, set for 7 p.m. at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati. The Red Bulls and FC Cincinnati are both looking to make their first-ever Open Cup championship appearances.

Sporting Kansas City is now in the midst of a 13-game unbeaten run in all competitions since the start of June, tying an all-time club record first set in 2012. The team is 9-0-6 this season at Children’s Mercy Park and will now look to become just the third MLS club to win four Open Cup trophies, joining Seattle Sounders FC and the Chicago Fire.

The 2017 Open Cup champion will receive $250,000 in prize money and a berth in the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League.
