Thunderstorms possible in afternoon and evening

Thunderstorms are in today’s forecast from the National Weather Service.

Wyandotte County has a 20 percent chance of storms during the day and afternoon, followed by a 40 percent chance of storms tonight, according to the weather service.

A few storms in the region may be strong with gusty winds and small hail, the weather service said.

Chances for thunderstorms will continue Friday and the weekend, but heavy rain will remain south of the area, according to the weather service.

Any heavy rain and flooding concerns will be south of the forecast area, mainly across southern Kansas into the Missouri Ozarks, the weather service said.

Severe weather and flash flooding is not expected in the Kansas City area, according to the weather service.

Today, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 84, the weather service said. A calm wind will become south southwest, 5 to 9 mph, in the afternoon.

Tonight, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 66, according to the weather service. A south wind of 7 to 10 mph will become north in the evening. New rainfall between a tenth and a quarter of an inch is possible.

Friday, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 83, with a calm wind becoming north northeast around 6 mph in the morning.

Friday night, the low will be around 64 with a north northeast wind of 5 mph becoming calm in the evening, according to the weather service.

Saturday, there will be a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., with a high near 80, the weather service said. The east wind will be 3 to 6 mph.

Saturday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m., with a low of 66, according to the weather service.

Sunday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., with a high near 79, the weather service said.

Sunday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 65, according to the weather service.
