The Board of Public Utilities had 3,600 customers still out as of Monday evening, according to a spokesman.
The BPU crews and outside contracting crews are working on repairs and reconnection, but there is so much damage that progress is painstaking, the spokesman stated.
Restoration efforts will continue into Tuesday and may last into Wednesday or Thursday, the spokesman said. The storm was on Saturday night.
The outage is very labor-intensive, and many outages are in small sections where crews have to climb into backyards and do the work by hand, according to the spokesman.
There were more than 13,000 customers without power at the height of the outage.
