Reception planned for new Welborn Community UCC pastor

Welborn Community United Church of Christ, founded in 1874, has announced the appointment of the Rev. Virginia Pych as its pastor.

Pych succeeds immediate past interim minister, The Rev. Joe Biscoe, who served in the interim role for more than 10 years. Biscoe retired from the pulpit in 2013.

The community and all current and former members of Welborn Community UCC may attend a welcome reception for Pych at noon on Sunday, July 13, immediately after worship.

“We are pleased to welcome Rev. Pych to our Welborn community church,” said Larry Reece, church moderator. “We are in our 140th year as a church, with a very long history of worship and service in the community. We look forward to the skills and leadership Rev. Pych can bring to our small, but generous, congregation.”

Pych grew up on a farm in southwestern Minnesota and was active in a Congregational Church (later a part of the UCC). Ordained in 1986, she served Rosedale Congregational Church in Kansas City, Kan., for four years, and then was trained for interim ministry. She served many congregations in the Upper Midwest as interim pastor, returning to the Kansas City area to establish a permanent home and be near two of her three children.

Welborn Community UCC, 5217 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kan., holds worship at 11 a.m. every Sunday. It is on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/welbornUCC. Welborn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, receiving its designation in 2013.
