UG budget meeting planned July 17
The next Unified Government budget meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, July 17, at City Hall, fifth floor conference room, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Another budget meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. July 20 in the fifth floor conference room. A public hearing on the UG budget will be held at 5:30 p.m. July 24 at the Commission Chambers, City Hall, with a budget workshop planned afterward. If needed a budget workshop will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 27, with the adoption of the budget scheduled at 7 p.m. July 27 in the Commission Chambers.

Astronomy program scheduled July 18
Participants will learn about stars and constellations in a Starlab Planetarium program at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library, 4051 West Drive, Kansas City, Kansas, at Wyandotte County Lake Park, 91st and Leavenworth Road. Participants will hear the Greek and Roman mythology stories behind the constellations. Registration is required to 913-295-8250, Ext. 2010.

Caregivers support group to meet
A support group for caregivers will meet from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Men and women may attend the meeting. The facilitator is Jackie Tigges. To register for this program, call 913-906-8990.

Candidate forums planned
Candidate forums are planned from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, and Wednesday, July 19, in the Upper Jewell building at Kansas City Kansas Community College, 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The forums are sponsored by Business West, neighborhood groups and KCKCC.

Medicare information offered at program
Information about Medicare will be presented from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave, Kansas City, Kansas. ‘Water Olympics’ scheduled
The fifth annual Water Olympics is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, outdoors at the South Library, 3104 Strong Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Water games will be played.

BPU to meet July 19
The Board of Public Utilities will meet at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, for a work session at the BPU administrative office, 540 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. On the agenda for the work session are a board update, general manager update and a continuation of the board strategic plan. The regular session will be at 6 p.m. July 19. On the agenda are a visitors’ time, a report about the United Way hardship utility assistance program, an update on the June 17 storm, board comments and general manager comments.

Grinter Place Friends to hold fundraiser July 20
The Shop and Sip Vendor Fair, a fundraiser for Grinter Place, will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at the Grinter Barn, 1400 S. 78th, Kansas City, Kansas. There will be more than 30 vendors at the event. Admission will be $5 and includes wine and food sampling. Proceeds benefit the historic Grinter Place house at 78th and K-32, and its programs.

Program on local history to be July 20
Chester Owens will speak on the history of Sumner High School and the Afro-American churches of Wyandotte County at a program at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

Nine free concerts to be offered this summer at Legends Outlets
The Legends Outlets will continue its free outdoor concert series, Legends Live, on Saturday evenings this summer. Some of the performers will be local bands. The concert series will include nine performances from 5 to 7 p.m. June 10 through Aug. 5 at the Civic Courtyard Fountain at The Legends Outlets, according to a spokesman. A range of styles, including popular music, classic rock, rock alternative, rhythm and blues, country hits and selections from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and today will be featured. The concert series will end Aug. 5 with a family friendly performance tied to Legends Outlets’ Back-to-School event featuring children’s music, giveaways and activities. The Legends concerts are held near the fountain, near the Legends 14 Theatre, at 1843 Village West Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas. The Legends Live concert schedule includes:
July 22: Rattle and Hum: Kansas City’s premier U2 tribute band covering hits from the 1980s to current.
July 29: Big Time Grain Company: Kansas City’s premier country western and country rock band performing crowd favorites from many artists.
Aug. 5: Mr. Stinky Feet and The Hiccups (family night): Award-winning kid rocker Jim “Mr. Stinky Feet” and his band, The Hiccups, performing popular children’s music.
