Sentencing hearing continued in Pledger case

A sentencing hearing has been continued for Tamika Pledger, who was found guilty of a Wyandotte County jury in May of involuntary manslaughter and three counts of aggravated battery in connection with a crash.

Tierra Smith died in the crash and three others suffered injuries. Pledger was running for Unified Government Commission at the time of the crash.

Originally the hearing was to have been July 14, but now it has been rescheduled to 9 a.m. Aug. 23 in Division 4 of the Wyandotte County District Court, according to the special prosecutor in the case.

Pledger and her new attorney, Kevin Shepherd, requested a continuation for additional time to review the case and prepare a sentencing memorandum. The special prosecutor objected, and the continuation was granted.
