Fireworks may be discharged from July 2 to 4 in KCK

If you’ve been hearing fireworks and firecrackers going off in your Kansas City, Kansas, neighborhood on Saturday, they’ve probably been illegal.

According to the local ordinance, fireworks can be discharged only from July 2 to July 4, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The ordinance also states what types of fireworks are permitted, and those that are permitted include firecrackers, fountains, sparklers and other common fireworks sold at the fireworks stands in Kansas City, Kansas.

The ordinance specifically states certain fireworks are illegal, including bottle rockets, sky rockets, missile-type rockets, unmanned aerial luminary, sky lanterns, and fire balloons.

Fireworks burn injury report

The University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, reported one fireworks-related injury between 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 30, and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 1, according to a spokesman.

There was no other information available about the fireworks injury because there was only one patient, and privacy rules prevented the release of additional information such as age, gender or city of residence, according to the hospital.

Fireworks displays in KCK

For those looking for an event in Kansas City, Kansas, that includes fireworks, the Turner Recreation Commission and UG Parks Department, with Aerial FX, are sponsoring a fireworks display at 9:45 p.m. July 3 at Pierson Park at South 55th and Douglass.

There is no admission charge for the Turner fireworks display. No individual fireworks are allowed in the park, on Turner school property or on Turner Recreation property. There will be no parking on the left side of the street in the park. Those attending may bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating.

The T-Bones have scheduled fireworks displays after the 7 p.m. baseball games on July 3 and 4 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in the Village West area. There is an admission charge to the T-Bones game.
