Showers, thunderstorms possible today

A round of showers and thunderstorms was expected to push through the area today, according to the National Weather Service.

These storms were not expected to be severe, but could have heavy downpours, lightning and gusty winds as they push through, the weather service said.

Another round of more scattered storms might develop Wednesday afternoon ahead of a cold front moving through the area, according to the weather service. The severity of these storms will somewhat depend on the evolution of the morning storms, but large hail and isolated severe winds are possible with any storms that develop.

Today, the high will be near 91, with a heat index of about 97, the weather service said. There will be a south southwest wind of 9 to 13 mph. There is a 70 percent chance of rain and storms today.

Tonight, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10 p.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 70 with a southwest wind of 5 to 8 mph.

Thursday, it will be sunny with a high near 94, the weather service said. The heat index will be as high as 99. Three will be a south wind of 5 to 9 mph.

Thursday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and storms, according to the weather service. The low will be around 72 and a south southwest wind of 7 to 10 mph. Between a half and three-quarters of an inch of rain are possible.

Friday, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 92, the weather service said. There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. There will be a south wind of 6 to 10 mph.

Friday night, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 74.

Saturday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 92, the weather service said.

Saturday night, there will be a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 67, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 83, the weather service said.
