Heat index may go to high 90s today

Today is expected to be the hottest day of the week, with temperatures rising to 93, and the heat index at 98, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will drop 1 or 2 degrees Tuesday with low 90s expected for the rest of the week, the weather service said.

Thunderstorm chances will increase Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning for northwest Missouri, according to the weather service.

More widespread thunderstorms will occur Wednesday afternoon over the region, with some of the storms strong to severe, the weather service said.

Today, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 93, and a heat index as high as 98, the weather service said. A south wind of 8 to 15 mph may gust as high as 23 mph.

Tonight, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 74, and a south wind of 11 to 13 mph, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, expect partly sunny skies with a high of 91, the weather service said. The heat index may be as high as 98. A south wind of 13 to 18 mph may gust as high as 28 mph.

Tuesday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. It will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 74. A south wind of 11 to 16 mph will gust as high as 25 mph.

Wednesday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 90, the weather service said. A south southwest wind of 10 to 13 mph will gust as high as 18 mph.

Wednesday night, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 70.

Thursday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., with a high near 92, the weather service said.

Friday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., with a high near 90, the weather service said.
