Kids’ fishing derby planned Saturday at Wyandotte County Lake
The annual Ed and Ione Trapp Kids’ Free Fishing Derby will be Saturday, June 10, at the Wyandotte County Lake Kids Pond. The event is sponsored by the Leavenworth Road Association and the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department. This event was started 30-plus years ago by Ed (a KCK firefighter) and his wife, Ione Trapp, with helping hands from the Leavenworth Road Association and Wyandotte County Parks and Rec. The Unified Government Parks and Rec Department stocks the pond. Leavenworth Road Association provides goody bags, some bait, and a free hot dog for each registered youth. Registration begins at 7 a.m., with the “throw your line in” whistle blowing at 8 a.m. There are four age groups, with prizes for each group’s winners. Cabela’s plans Family Adventure Day Saturday
Cabela’s plans its Family Adventure Day on Saturday, June 10, at the store at 10300 Cabela Drive, Kansas City, Kansas. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include a free kids’ fishing derby. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. There will be prizes. There are four age groups for the kids’ fishing derby, starting at age 3 and ending at age 15. Other activities on Family Adventure Day will include archery, face painting, giveaways, a BB-gun range, minnow races, fishing demonstrations, and educational seminars about outdoor activities. Free hot dogs will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is sponsored by Cabela’s and Sportsmen’s Alliance, and there are many organizations that are partners.

Free outdoor concert offered at Legends Outlets
The Legends Outlets will continue its free outdoor concert series, Legends Live, on Saturday evening, June 10. The performance will be from 5 to 7 p.m. June 10 at the Civic Courtyard Fountain at The Legends Outlets, Kansas City, Kansas. On June 10, the band will be Red Guitar, a transcendent melodic rock and alternative band with rich vocal harmonies, playing music from the 1990s to now.

Alcott concert series to open with KCK violinist on Saturday evening
The Alcott Arts Center will open its 2017 concert series with a performance by Matthew Bennett, a concert violinist, on June 10 and 11. According to Chris Green, executive director at Alcott Arts Center, Bennett is from Kansas City, Kansas, attended Sumner Academy and wants to give back to his community. The concert is a benefit for the Alcott. Bennett has performed with several orchestras, including the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, the Kansas City Baroque Consortium, and other orchestras in Kansas, Missouri and Germany. Performances of “Virtuosity in Improvisional” by Bennett will be at 7 p.m. June 10 and at 2 p.m. June 11 at the Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas. There may be a variety of musical styles, with Bennett explaining each one. Tickets are $20 each and may be purchased online at Brown Paper Tickets at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2953974, or tickets may be reserved by calling Alcott and paying at the door with cash or check. There is a service charge when buying tickets online. An artists’ reception will be held at 6 p.m. Two artists will be presenting works in the Alcott gallery on Saturday and Sunday. They are David Fleming and Colleen Cook. A reception with the artists will start at 6:30 p.m. June 10. The art exhibits are free and open to the public, and will run through July 1. The Alcott Art galleries are open Wednesdays and Saturday evenings, 6:30 to 8 p.m., throughout the month. The building is not ADA accessible.

T- Bones to play St. Paul Saints tonight in KCK

Montreal visits Sporting KC on Saturday night in KCK
First-place Sporting Kansas City (7-4-4, 25 points) will put its club-record 16-game home unbeaten streak on the line Saturday when it welcomes the Montreal Impact (4-4-4, 16 points) to Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas. The interconference clash will kick off at 7 p.m., with three hours of live coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. on FOX Sports Kansas City and FOX Sports Midwest.
