Legislature overrides governor’s veto

The Kansas Senate and House tonight overrode Gov. Sam Brownback’s veto of a tax increase bill.

The Senate vote was 27-13, and the House vote was 88-31.

The override ends the Brownback tax cuts, which were passed in 2012. The new bill would raise $1.2 billion in two years.

In the Senate, Sens. David Haley, D-4th Dist., and Pat Pettey, D-6th Dist., voted to override the veto.

Sen. Steve Fitzgerald, R-5th Dist., voted against the override.
