Schlitterbahn waterpark opens season today

Schlitterbahn waterpark in Kansas City, Kansas, opens its season today, according to information from the park.

Hours for today, as well as Saturday, Sunday and Monday, are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to the waterpark’s website.

On Monday, Memorial Day, members of the military and first responders can get in free to Schlitterbahn with identification. Spouses and dependents of military and first responders can get 50 percent off the gate price.

The free admission for military and first responders will continue through Schlitterbahn’s American Heroes Week from Memorial Day, May 29, though June 4.

In conjunction with American Heroes Week, the American Fallen Warriors Memorial Foundation has placed about 8,000 small American flags in front of the Schlitterbahn, along State Avenue near 94th. The tribute honors members of the U.S. military who died in action since the Gulf War.

Members of the military who may receive free admission at the Schlitterbahn include active duty, retirees, veterans, reservists and Department of Defense employees.

First responders who may receive free admission include police, firefighters, sheriff’s employees, EMTs and others. Identification is required. For more information, see www.schlitterbahn.com/kansas-city.

Schlitterbahn will have different hours during its opening month, with the hours becoming longer as the weather gets warmer.

On Tuesday, May 30, hours are noon to 6 p.m., continuing through June 2. On Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4, hours will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
