The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Wyandotte County until 10:30 p.m.
The new warning was issued after a severe thunderstorm was seen at 9:50 p.m. near Lawrence, Kan., moving east at 45 mph. The storm has 60 mph wind gusts. In the path of the storm are Bonner Springs, Basehor, Edwardsville, Lake Quivira, Kansas City, Kan., and other areas.
Residents are advised to return to the lower floor, interior room in their building.
Earlier, the weather service issued a thunderstorm watch in effect for Wyandotte, Leavenworth, Johnson and some other surrounding counties until 3 a.m.
Also a flash flood watch is in effect in Wyandotte County from late tonight through Friday morning, the weather service said.
Residents are advised not to try to cross roads that are under water.
