Civitan Club to meet Wednesday in KCK

Civitan, an International Community Service Organization is building a new Civitan Club in Kansas City, Kansas. The new club’s next meeting is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at The Dotte Spot, 8123 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas.

The Lancaster-Melton Peace Keepers Civitan Club is sponsored by the Lawrence ACTION Civitan Club. A spokesman said the club’s main objective is to keep the two officers’ memory alive by working together on projects that improve the community. It also hopes to increase the support of law enforcement officers in the community, as well as supporting efforts to help make the community a better place to live, work, and play.

“We are looking for community members to come out to our next meeting to discover more about Civitan,” said Frank Kelley, Civitan International Heartland District Governor and lead club builder. “We ask community members to come out in support of the two slain officers as well as those who continue to serve.”

Civitan International was founded in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1917 and is celebrating its 100th year this year. Civitan Club membership is open to anyone who is at least 18 years old and of good character.

All community members interested in serving and making a difference are encouraged to come out to the April 26 meeting.
