Accident preceded by driver’s illness

A series of events on southbound I-635 on the Wyandotte County side of the Kansas-Missouri state line on Saturday night started when a driver got sick.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, the driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck was feeling ill and pulled over to the side of the highway at 10:37 p.m. Saturday, April 22. The driver stopped the truck and exited the vehicle.

The trooper’s report stated that a Jeep Wrangler then left the roadway and hit the rear of the Ford pickup truck.

Next, a Saturn Aura swerved to avoid the crash and struck the wall, according to the trooper’s report.

A passenger in the Ford pickup truck, a 31-year-old woman from Shawnee, Kansas, was injured and taken to the hospital, the report stated.

A 1-year-old Shawnee, Kansas, girl who was a passenger in the Ford pickup had a possible injury and was taken to the hospital, according to the trooper’s report. An 8-year-old Shawnee, Kansas, girl in the truck also was taken to the hospital with a possible injury, the report stated. In addition, a 13-year-old passenger in the truck from Shawnee, Kansas, was taken to the hospital with a possible injury.

The driver of the Ford pickup, a 31-year-old Shawnee, Kansas, woman, was not injured. She was outside of the vehicle at the time of the accident, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the Saturn Aura, a 19-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man, was not injured, according to the trooper’s report.

The driver of the Jeep Wrangler, a 68-year-old man from Wichita, Kansas, was not injured, according to the report.
