The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Wyandotte County from 7 p.m. today through Wednesday afternoon.
The flood watch area also includes counties surrounding Wyandotte County and the Kansas City area.
According to the weather service, recent rainfall has saturated the ground and led to some flooding at a few points on area rivers and streams. As a result, the rainfall tonight into Wednesday will likely run directly into area streams and rivers, which will likely lead to additional flooding on rivers, creeks, streams and lower water crossings tonight into Wednesday.
There may be minor to moderate flooding along area rivers and streams, the weather service said. Moderate flooding could lead to wider issues with closed roads in typical low-water crossing locations.
The weather service asked residents to stay alert for possible flood warnings.
Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action if flooding develops, the weather service said.
