The Kansas Court of appeals today upheld the murder conviction of Jamaal A. Summers from Wyandotte County District Court.
Summers appealed his conviction on grounds he received ineffective assistance of trial counsel.
The district court denied Summers’ motion, and the Kansas Court of Appeals found no error by the district court, and affirmed the denial.
In the Summers’ case, the victim was Salvador Velasquez, who was found shot to death at his home on June 18, 2007.
Earlier, Summers had appealed to the Kansas Supreme Court, which affirmed his conviction in 2012. He then filed his motion claiming ineffective counsel.
