Master Gardeners sponsor class Feb. 2

The Wyandotte County Extension Master Gardeners are sponsoring “Organic vs. Locally Grown: Which Is Better for You” at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2.

The 90-minute class will feature Elisabeth Kasckow, an associate professor of biology at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

She teaches environmental science, among other courses. Prior to moving to Kansas, Kasckow and her husband owned a fish farm in southeastern California where they grew catfish, bass and tilapia. Kasckow dabbles at gardening and raises bees to help with pollination at her local community garden.

Her presentation will cover the health and economic aspects of food, the business of farming, and the varying definitions of “organic.”

The presentation will be in the Sunflower Room of the K-State Research and Extension, Wyandotte County office, 1208 N. 79th St., Kansas City, Kan.

Call 913-299-9300 for further information. There is a $5 fee, payable at the door. The fee will be waived upon presentation of current active Master Gardener status.
